Silent Auction on location painting Fundraiser for Trout Unlimited Canada
Thursday November 28, 2013 at th Metro Convention Center, Fundraiser Silent Auction painting
"STEELHEAD SPLASH". Acrylic on canvas 6in x 6 in. For reference for my art I used the shiny steelhead trout on the cover of Real Fishing Magazine 2013 Fall issue.
The creation of the small canvas painting took about an hour and a half. The bids were coming along and and I was talking to the invited guests about the new art that I have recently completed. The location downtown was perfect. After I completed the artwork I went over to Ripley's Aquarium Canada!Very inspiring!
Here I am with the completed acrylic painting. Titled "Steelhead Splash."

How to Draw A Caricature of Jennifer Lawrence
ARTWORK COPYRIGHT Charles Weiss 2013
start a caricature portrait consider the shape of a persons face. Then consider which features could be exaggerated. Jennifer has a slightly round face and slightly small eyes. Her full lips are a detail I would increase in size. Also, the hair is something I would enlarge in size.
Two versions of the final portrait.

Repainting a wood carved Muskie at Vermilion Bay Lodge 2003
During the spring of 2003 I was contacted by e-mail through my old website
Nature Artists by Gord Bastable of Vermilion Bay Lodge. He was needing a talented wood carving artist to repaint his Large wood Carved Muskie.
I had read about Gord Bastable and Eagle Lake from a couple of articles by Burton Myers in 1998 Ontario Out of Doors magazine.
This carving was created by Bill Sitter of Illinois USA.
Gord had commissioned him to create a replica to represent a giant muskie caught October 1940 byAmerican Ed Walden from Eagle Lakein the Vermilion Bay area. The fish was a Canadain Record at that timelength 59inches, girth 31inches and a weight of 61 pounds 9 ounces.
Gord had taken the carving to a few sportsman showsthe previous winter an was amazed by the less than positive comments by the public.
I wasinvited up to the lodge to work on recarving and painting and share a week at the lodge and enjoy the areas assorted fishing and sight seeing. His letter reads. "Would be happy to have you and Diane come upthe last week of Aug. 2003. I will have a cabin available . I hopeto take you out in the cedar-strip boat myself for a littlre musky fishing. The wood musky looks forward toa new tail and paint job."
My wife Diane was unavailable for the trip. I invited my fishing friend Jim Elie and his son Mark along instead during the last week of August. We did go and enjoy some guided muskie fishing with Gord in his wooden boat, none were caught. Many were seen following. Gord was alostshoulderedout of the wayby Jim when he had a muskief ollow up to the side of the boat.
These are photographs that Gord Bastable took of the progress of re-carving and re-painting the Giant"Ed Walden"Muskie. It's on display in the lodge for all to admire.
Who knows if another muskie of this size or larger is swimming in Eagle Lake today?
Sanding and reshaping the tail and anal fin .

Muskies Inc. Back Calendar cover art step by step
ARTWORK COPYRIGHT Charles Weiss2013
I worked up a rough drawing of a yellow perch escaping from a chasing muskie. I positioned the small fish at the edge of the mouth of the large predator fish to create a dramatic closeness between them.I sent it over to Musky Hunter magazine. I thought this image would express the tangled underwater world of a variety of plants Richardson pond weed, and potamageton etc.
I re-drew the scene on canvas of the muskie and perch . I added the shapes of the vegetation and painted with Hookers green, Raw Umber and green gold and yellow ochre. The water has cerulean and ultra marine blue patches and white added for bubbles.
I left the shape of the perch un-painted . I wanted to create a simple white shape of the canvas. The contrast allows me to clearly see the progress in the design.
I use a painted plastic head casting of a musky to compare the shape and details of the mouth and head in a similar perspective as the painting

Metal DRAGONS in Scarborough
Recently I was travelling ON MY BICYCLE
along the streets of my neighbourhood when I can upon a wonderful selection of large metal sculptures of segmented shaped giant lizards and dragons. The largest must be over 10 feet high! The intersection of Crockford Blvd. and Lawrence Street on the WEST SIDE OF SCARBOROUGH!
